Many high-rise buildings stand side by side along the avenue. It is a business district during the day, but, in the evenings and on weekends, completely changes to a shopping street with many big-name chic fashion shops that attract many people.

Marunouchi/Shin-Marunouchi Bldgs

These are two landmarks that have enlivened the Marunouchi area, and, as called by the locals, are the "Marubiru" and "Shin-Marubiru." Marubiru is a complex building, and its construction was the beginning of the redevelopment of Marunouchi. The panoramic views from the restaurants on the 35th and 36th floors are breathtaking. Shin-Marubiru opened in April 2007. The Marunouchi House on the 7th floor, referred to as "the guest house of the town," has unique shops, restaurants and bars which stay open until midnight and an open terrace. It is highly recommended for its variety of things to do and see.

This glass-walled open space houses more than 30 shops, restaurants and the flagship store of Maruzen Marunouchi, one of the biggest bookstores in Japan.

Marunouchi Brick Square opened on September 3, 2009, on the intersection of Babasaki-dori and Marunouchi Naka-dori, where many highly unique fashion, home sundries, and well-known foods stores can be found. The fountain in Ichigokan Square provides peace and relaxation and makes it easy to forget being in the center of Tokyo.

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo

The very first office building constructed in Marunouchi in 1894 (designed by British architect Josiah Conder), has been faithfully replicated and opened as a museum on April 6, 2010. The museum owns over 200 paintings of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the famous 19th century French artist.

Eki-Naka – Enjoy inside of Tokyo Station

GRANSTA, located on the first-floor basement inside the ticket gates, has numerous delicious "train station box lunches" and unique souvenirs. The station concierge offers information on not only railways and stations, but also tourism and events in Tokyo. The cloak storage and foreign currency exchange (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) are also very popular services for tourists. Ichibangai of Tokyo Station on the Yaesu side, Tokyo Ramen Street and Tokyo Character Street are very hot places to go right now.

Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace is at the center of Tokyo but is full of nature where many people enjoy jogging or walking, and is an oasis for people living and working in the city. The outer garden of the Imperial Palace near Marunouchi and Nijubashi are must-see places for tourists visiting the Imperial Palace. It is famous for cherry blossoms.
Running around the PalaceWhy don' t you join us in a run around the Imperial Palace with the lovely view exactly in the center of Tokyo? There are no stoplights so the 5-km lap around is a nice workout in a great environment. There are facilities where runners can take a shower such as Runners Station and Joglis.
Palace Cycling On Sundays, the streets around the Imperial Palace are restricted to bicycles only. The Palace Cycling Course goes by the castle moat and tree-lined avenues. It is a great place for family fun. Bicycles borrowed for free are available.

The free circuit bus, the "Marunouchi Shuttle" connecting Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho is great for easy sightseeing. There are 13 bus stops including the Shin-Marunouchi Building and the Mitsubishi Building. "Skybus", an open-car 50-minute bus tour circling around the Imperial Palace is also good for sightseeing the notable places.

Marunouchi Cafe

Information on the Marunouchi district, newspapers and magazines for reading are free at the cafe. There are over 800 books on art and architecture.
